Do I need to migrate all my historical data?

The short answer: No.

What really matters is that your QuickBooks Online books match your last filed tax return and that your balance sheet is accurate moving forward. You’ll still keep your old Desktop file as an archive if you ever need to look back 5, 10, or even 30 years. Migrating decades of transactions adds cost and complexity without giving you extra value.

Will I still have access to my old QuickBooks Desktop file?
Yes. You’ll keep your Desktop file as an archive. Even after moving to QuickBooks Online, you can open the old file if you ever need to look back at prior years.

Will my reports match after migration?
Yes. Part of my process is verifying that your key reports (like the Balance Sheet and Profit & Loss) line up between Desktop and Online. This ensures accuracy and keeps your accountant happy.
